Circuit Elements:
Circuit Elements defined as the any individual circuit component which have two terminals, from which it can be connect to other Electric components is called Circuit elements.
Basic elements of a circuit or network are Resistor, Capacitor and Inductor.
e.g.
Branch: A group of elements usually in series with two terminals.
In a simple word we can say that all elements which is used to make a complete circuit or network is called Circuit Elements or Network Elements.
Further,
Elements are classified as following:
- Active Element
- Passive Element
- Linear Element
- Non-linear Element
- Unidirectional Element
- Bidirectional Element
Active Element:
When the element is having properties of internal amplification is called Active Element.
in other words we can say that when elements is capable in deliver energy independently for infinite time is called Active Element.
e.g.
Current Source and Voltage Source are independent source therefore it is called Active element.
Operational Amplifier is also an active element but it is Dependent Source.
Passive Element:
It is just opposite of Active element.
Passive Element is defined as the when element is not capable for delivering energy independently for infinite time then the element is called as passive element.
e.g.
Resistor, Capacitor and inductor are passive elements.
Linear Element:
A circuit element said to be linear if the relation between voltage and current involves a constant coefficient.
e.g. Voltage is directly proportional to the current.
in another word we can say that a network or circuit is linear if that hold principle of Superposition.
Non-Linear Element:
" A non-linear element or network does not hold principle of superposition and its voltage is not directly Proportional to the current.
Unidirectional Element:
When Element's Properties and Characteristics are depends on direction of current is called Unidirectional element.
Bidirectional Element:
When element's Properties and Characteristics are independent of direction of current is called Bidirectional Element.
"Every Linear Element must exhibit Bidirectional Property".
